Burch Williams

Burch C. Williams, 98, of Clyde, Ohio and formerly of Lakeside, Ohio, passed away with his family by his side on Monday, October 29, 2018 at Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky. He was born on August 14, 1920 in Livingston, Tennessee, the youngest of eleven children of John and Lou Ollie (Dodson) Williams. He married his first wife, Helen Gray Smith in 1940 and she preceded him in death on March 3, 1953, with whom he had 3 children. He married his second wife, Bessie McElroy on February 11, 1955 and she preceded him in death on May 12, 2010. Burch was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served his country during World War II in the Pacific aboard the USS Puget Sound (CVE-113). Burch was a part-time rancher/farmer while working at Continental Automotive in Detroit, Michigan, and after moving to Ohio in 1957, he worked for Ford Motor Company in Sandusky until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the American Legion Post 83, Sandusky, as well as a member of the National Rifle Association. After retirement he was an avid golfer and could often be seen playing daily at Sleepy Hollow Golf Course in Clyde. Over the years, Burch had sported many fine birddogs and a bag of pheasants. He also had a love for the Lyman boat owning several while chasing Lake Erie walleye. Holding a private pilot license, hed pilot his airplane to different destinations around the Midwest for a weekend get-away. Survivors include his daughter, Patricia (Wm.C.) Hall, of Catawba Island; son, John Williams, of Clyde; daughter-in-law, Pam Williams, of Marblehead; grandchildren, Helen (Greg) Odum, Tara Hall, James (Angie) Williams, and Hydie Hall; great-grandchildren, Nevan, Kaitlyn, Evan, and Zaiden; and special friend Nancy Smith, of Sandusky; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first and second wife, his son, Charles Ray Williams, and siblings. There will be no visitation or services as cremation has taken place. Graveside services and burial with military honors will be held at Sackett Cemetery in the Spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the donors choice.
