Betty L. Leonard

Betty L. Leonard, 88, of Vermilion, Ohio and formerly of Marblehead, Amherst and Geneva, Ohio, died Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at the Kingston Residence of Vermilion in Vermilion, Ohio. She was born on February 7, 1923 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of the late Carl and Dorothy (Clemons) Williams. In January 1943 she married Harold "Bud" Thompson and he preceded her in death on October 28, 1986. She then married Raymond Leonard on February 22, 1991 and he preceded her in death on April 10, 2010. Betty was the great granddaughter of Lucien M. Clemons who was the first man to receive a life saving medal by the U.S. Government and was the first captain of the Marblehead Lighthouse. She was a homemaker and a member of the Danbury Senior Center. Her hobbies included reading, crocheting, and birdwatching. Survivors include her daughter: Holly (Jeff) Thompson-Rider, of Vermilion, son: James (Grace) Thompson, of Winchester, TN; grandsons: Cory Rider of John Carroll University and Kyle Rider of the United States Air Force; step daughters: Raynette Boggins, of Avon Lake, Ohio and Karen Olsen, of North Royalton, Ohio. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial graveside services will be held on Friday October 28th at 11:00 am at Clemons Cemetery in Marblehead, Ohio, with her niece Pastor Paula Marburry, officiating.
