Bernadine L. Florio

August 5, 1930 — September 14, 2021

Bernadine L. Florio, 91 of Elmore, OH died Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at ProMedica Memorial Hospital, Fremont, OH. Bernie was born August 5, 1930 in Oak Harbor, OH to the late Lester and Helen (Fehr) Foreman. She was a 1948 graduate of Elmore High School. On July 28, 1951 she married Pasquale P. “Pat” Florio. For several years Bernie was a homemaker staying home to raise their sons Mike and Steve. During this time, she enjoyed volunteering as a Cub Scout Den Mother and working part time as church secretary. Pat and Bernie loved to play their favorite card games with close friends. Once the boys were grown, she took a job at the bank, now known as US Bank, in Oak Harbor. Bernie was a life-long member of St. John Lutheran Church, Rocky Ridge. She served her church family in various ways throughout the years as Sunday school teacher, member of the Ruth Circle, youth chaperone, VBS volunteer, and quilting club. She happily picked chicken for Chicken and Biscuit Dinners, and lovingly baked countless pies for Steak Feeds. Bernie loved sharing her joy for cooking and baking with her family. She loved and doted on her grandchildren Amanda, Melissa, Rebecca, Angela and Tony. She attended sporting events, choir and band concerts, piano recitals, plays, and special ceremonies. With every event she attended her family grew; her loving nature and welcoming smile encouraged everyone to call her “Grandma Bernie”. Her unconditional love touched the lives of everyone she encountered. She’ll be remembered for her honesty and sass, her cooking and her baking, and the care she took making everyone feel like her favorite. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pat, and grandson Tony Florio. Survivors include her sons Michael (Ellen) Florio of Oakland, CA, and Steve (Carol) Florio of Graytown, OH; grandchildren: Amanda (Cameron) Middis, Melissa (Phillip) Weickert, Rebecca (Johnny Donovan) Florio, and Angela Barry-Florio; great- grandson Brantley Weickert; sister Darlene (Toot) Macko; and many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, September 16th from 4-8pm at the Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Oak Harbor Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 10am on Friday, September 17th at St. John Lutheran Church, Rocky Ridge with Rev. Holli Burkard officiating. Facial Coverings will be required for attendance for both Visitation and the Service. Interment will follow in Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor.
