Beatrice Moen Walker

Mrs. Beatrice Moen Walker, age 88, of Marblehead, died Thursday, August 24, 2017. She was the daughter of Alfred and Viola (Violet) Moen. Bea's mother died when Bea was six years old. Bea's father was a station agent for the Northern Pacific Railway in northern Minnesota. The family lived in the agent's apartment in the train depot. Bea graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1953, majoring in library science. She worked for the Port Clinton and Oak Harbor school systems, serving as elementary school teacher (Bataan Memorial), elementary librarian (Port Clinton schools), and high school librarian (Port Clinton and Oak Harbor). Beatrice was the beloved wife of Thomas F. Walker for 66 years, proud mother of sons Randall, Ned, and Paul (Connie), and cherished grandmother of Catherine, Jessica, Monica, and Stephanie. Bea enjoyed family gatherings, close and active friendships, travel, camping, literature and poetry, bridge, programs at Lakeside, winters in Florida, Otterbein North Shore community, gardening, bonsai, antique buttons, and cooking. Bea enjoyed her life in Lakeside-Marblehead, surrounded by a wonderful and ever-widening circle of friends. Bea Walker led an active life of faith. She and Tom were long-time members of Peace Lutheran Church in Port Clinton and served on church council and in many other ways. She also participated in prayer, choir, Bible study and Women's Circle groups. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Thomas, and sister Shirley. Bea is survived by sister, Mabel Rys, and brother, Thor Moen. Memorial services will be held at Peace Lutheran Church, 900 S. Jefferson Street, Port Clinton, at 11 am Friday, October 13, 2017 with a meal at the church to follow. The family requests donations in her memory be made to Peace Lutheran Church, 900 S.
