Barbara S. Dickson

Barbara S. Dickson, 69, of Dallas, TX, died January 22, 2007. She was born on March 21, 1937 in Ohio, to the late Lewis & Margaret Summers. She grew up in Elmore, OH, and attended The Ohio State University, where she earned a degree in English. In 1959, she married Francis “Dick” Dickson, moving to Texas in 1960. Barb was active in her community, working with the American Association of University Women and activities focusing on older adults. He passion for helping eventually led to her continuing her studies by gaining a masters degree in gerontology from North Texas State in 1980 at the age of 43. She then began her second career with the American Association of Retired Persons, where she made many new lifelong friends. Barbara’s beloved husband Dick preceded her in death last month. She is survived by her children, Susan (David) Otey, Littleton, CO, David (Lisa) Dickson, Dallas, TX, and Dr. Rob (Joanie) Dickson, Longview, TX; grandchildren Sarah Jane, Barbara, and Sydney Otey, William, Robert, Carl, and David Dickson, and Austin, Katie and Charlie Dickson; sisters, Carol Body, Ft. Worth, TX, and Sally Erickson, Southport, NC. Barbara will forever be known as the energetic “BaBa”, a loving and supportive wife, and encouraging mother, a fun and generous grandmother, and a true friend to all who knew her.
