Barbara J. Sprouse

Barbara Jean Sprouse, 90, of Oak Harbor passed away peacefully, on June 28, 2022 surrounded by her family at Elmwood Assisted Living in Fremont, Ohio. She was born on October 27, 1931 to Ray and Edna Johns and was raised with her siblings in what is now known as Crane Creek. Barbara was a 1949 graduate of Oak Harbor High School. On April 21, 1951, she married Leslie F. Sprouse and they were married for 60 years. He preceded her in death on June 15, 2011. Barbara was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor and formerly a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church (Blackberry). In 1957 together with her husband Leslie, they founded Sprouse Insurance Agency in Genoa, where she worked many years with her husband as partners helping the business to thrive and grow. Sprouse Agency still remains in the family. Les and Barb enjoyed traveling extensively and she also enjoyed playing and watching golf. Barbara (Grammy Sprouse) loved spending time with her family and cherished the large holiday gatherings or anytime she could be with them. She had a love for nature and enjoyed watching and feeding the birds. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Bonnie (Thom) Yano, Pat (Tony) Gaines, Bev (Chuck) Krumel, Mike (Ann) Sprouse, Scott (Kelly) Sprouse, and Terry (Jane) Sprouse; 16 Grandchildren and their spouses along with 35 Great Grandchildren. She also is survived by her siblings: Frances Wilson, Butch (Karen) Johns, Faye (Shorty) Rife, Karen (Larry) Anderson, sister-in-law Sally Johns, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Sherry Sprouse and brothers Jerry and Bud Johns and her sister Joan Siefke. Friends are invited to call on Saturday, July 23, 2022 from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 165 Toussaint St., Oak Harbor, OH. A private interment will be held at Elliston Cemetery, Elliston, Ohio. For those planning expressions of sympathy, and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul United Church of Christ, Stein Hospice in Sandusky, Guiding Hands in Oak Harbor, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
