Anton J. "Tony" Heinsen, 78, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, died Friday, June 12, 2009 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, Ohio. He was born in Columbus Junction, Iowa on March 24, 1931, a son of Anton & Elizabeth (Ewersen) Heinsen. The family moved to Oak Harbor in 1936. Tony was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving in Germany. He was a long time employee of Uniroyal, Inc. where he was a supply technician and fork lift operator, retiring in 1996. After retirement, Tony was a crossing guard at R. C. Waters Elementary School, which he greatly enjoyed. An active member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor, Tony served two terms on the church council, and was head of the trustees for several years. He was also a member of the church dartball team and assisted with the food pantry and newsletter delivery. Tony was a member of V.F.W. Post #8732, Oak Harbor, where he served as secretary for 11 years. He is survived by his daughter, Tanya Thorbahn, Woodville, OH; son, Terry Heinsen, Oak Harbor; sisters, Mary Lou Houle, Toledo, OH, Betty Chambers, Dos Palos, CA, and Eileen Sniegowski, Castlerock, CO; brother, Robert Heinsen, Trinity, FL; and grandchildren, Eric Heinsen, Laif Thorbahn, and Kira Thorbahn. Tony was preceded in death by his parents, and his long time companion, Marian Winter. The family will receive friends after 10 A.M. Tuesday at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday. Rev. David A. Voll will officiate, and interment will be in Roose Cemetery, Salem Township, where V.F.W. Post #8732 will conduct graveside rites. Memorial contributions may be made to the memorial fund of St. Paul United Church of Christ or to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, OH.
