Ann Domokos, 92, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, died Saturday, October 4, 2008 at St. Charles Mercy Hospital, Oregon, Ohio, following a sudden illness. She was born in April 9, 1916 in Wyco, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Steve & Esther (Kish) Demeter, who were immigrants from Hungary. On January 14, 1939, she married Andrew Domokos. They were married 62 years, and he preceded her in death on July 14, 2001. After their marriage, she and her husband lived on a farm near Oak Harbor. She proudly drove her own John Deere tractor and she had a team of white horses. Mrs. Domokos was a homemaker and her family was the center of her life. She was most proud of her nine grandchildren. Ann spoke fluent Hungarian, and was an outstanding cook. She was also an avid gardener and even this past summer at age 92, she planted many of the flowers around her home. They had a large vegetable garden, and Ann enjoyed canning. She and her husband Andy operated a multi-broker trucking operation even after Andy's retirement in 1976. Ann handled the book work for their operation. She and her husband also had owned a race car. Many years ago, Ann had worked at Wistinghausen Florist & Greenhouse. She loved beautiful flowers and a thriving garden. Ann was a member of St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor. She helped to form the Oak Harbor Band Mother's Club and helped start the first kindergarten class in Oak Harbor. Survivors include her three children, Carol (Jim) Orman, Allen "Sonny" (Janet) Domokos, and Brenda (George) Arebaugh, all of Oak Harbor; nine grandchildren in birth order, twins: Vicki Leaser, Oak Harbor, and Valarie Ewing, East Palestine, OH, Cathy Wisler, Folkston, GA, Scott Arebaugh, Cedar Rapids, IA, Jimmy Orman, Woodville, OH, Amy Behm and Therran Arebaugh, both of Oak Harbor, Lance Arebaugh, Toledo, OH, and Kimberly Domokos, Oak Harbor, OH. Ann is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson. Ann's wishes were to remember her Godchildren, Lynn Walgenbach, Canton, MI, Nancy Rickett, Greenfield, IN, Judy Bear, Tippecanoe, OH, Sandy Opfer, and Terry Kline, both of Oak Harbor, Wendy Caldron, Gray Lakes, IL, and Jimmy Demeter (deceased), Orwell, OH. Ann was fond of her best friend, Arlene Sandwisch, Oak Harbor. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and sisters, Esther Walgenbach, Helen Arndt, Mary Nehls, Elizabeth Kline, and brothers, John Demeter and Steve Demeter. Friends are invited to call from 7-9 P.M. Tuesday, and 2-9 P.M. Wednesday at the Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor, with the Rev. David J. Tinker officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. Memorial contributions may be made to the Capital Improvement Fund of St. Johns Ev.
