Alva J. Sutton, 81, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, died Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at his home. He was born in Attica, Ohio on July 9, 1932, the son of Corwin & Corris (Cary) Sutton. Al was a graduate of the former Attica High School and attended Denison University, Granville, Ohio, and graduated from The Ohio State University. He was also a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking. Al was a banker for his entire career at the Sutton State Bank, Attica, Ohio, which was founded by his family. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, where he was an air controlman. During his Navy career, he learned to fly helicopters, and from this came his enthusiasm and love for flying. Al owned several planes, and was happiest when he was in the air. He also was an accomplished golfer and fly fisherman. A man of many talents, Al was well known for his woodworking abilities and creating fine furniture and other items. An avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes, Al also greatly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. On January 10, 1987, he married the former Jeanne Dailey, and she survives. Also surviving are his children, Kathleen (Rob) Booher, Graytown, Ohio, Holly (Charles) Gates, Tiffin, Ohio, Sarah Trambley, Sandusky, Ohio, Kaye (Christopher) Heinhold, Illinois, Todd (Pamela) Sutton, Knoxville, Tennessee, and Dean (Robin) Sutton, North Carolina; grandchildren, Lauren (Steve) Martikan, Robert Booher IV, Kortney Trambley, Kaylyn Trambley, Rachel Gates, Karolyne Trambley, Christopher Gates, Taylor Sutton, Paige Sutton, Megan Heinhold, and Bridget Heinhold. Al is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters. A celebration of Al's life will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Crosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Oak Harbor, with the Rev. Ralph Schibler officiating.
