Alice E. Bowersox, 90 of Graytown, OH passed away Monday, February 10, 2025 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo, OH. She was born September 6, 1934 in rural Oak Harbor to the late William and Hilda (Wolf) Dreier. She graduated from Salem-Oak Harbor High School in 1952 where she acted in plays and edited the School Newspaper. On April 25, 1953, she married Keith Bowersox who preceded her in death on June 28, 2012.
Alice worked for many employers, first as a secretary in military, legal and industrial offices. In 1973 she began work as an accountant. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Toledo in 1983 and passed the CPA exam in 1986. During the following years she worked for a number of Toledo non-profit health centers and the YMCA Storer Camps, ending her career with six years at the Salvation Army. During those same years she established a part-time income tax business in her home, maintaining it after her retirement.
She was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, (Blackberry) Martin, OH where she organized and ran a church library. On her vacations she hiked about 400 miles of the Appalachian Trail. She also loved llamas as hiking companions and steel pan music.
Survivors include her children: Alan (Sharon) Bowersox, William Bowersox, Paul Bowersox, and Elaine Bowersox; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and brother Wayne Dreier. She was also preceded in death by her brother Max Dreier and granddaughters Haley May and Brandy Lee Bowersox.
Visitation will be 2-8pm on Thursday at Crosser & Preisman Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Oak Harbor Chapel. Funeral Service will begin at 11am on Friday, February 14, 2025 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Martin, OH. Burial will be in Elliston Cemetery, Elliston, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church or The Appalachian Trail Conservancy, Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.
