Alfred Ernest Steiner, 89, of Port Clinton died Thursday October 28, 2010 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky. He was born Mary 11, 1921 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Curt Ernest and Julia (Praut) Steiner. Al was valedictorian of his high school class and was a retired draftsman for Port Clinton Manufacturing and Minderman Marine and later also retired from ARES. He owned Paul's Gulf gas station and Jimmys John Restaurant in Port Clinton. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Immaculate Conception Church. Al was a US Naval veteran serving during WWII. He was a life member of the VFW 2480 of Port Clinton, member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Moose Lodge of Port Clinton, the American Legion and former member of the Elk's Lodge. Al is survived by his wife of over 68 years, Virginia Margaret (Simchak); daughters Melinda Steiner and Sylvia (Dick Maloy) Hudec both of Port Clinton; grandchildren Sherrie Hudec McClaren and Steve Hudec; great grandchildren Nathan McClaren and Sam McClaren and Kevin Hudec and a sister in law Victoria Fatiga and niece Michelle Fatiga. Per Al's wishes, his services will be private followed by burial in the Ohio Veterans Home Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ohio Veterans Home.
