Alan R. Eberly

Alan R. Eberly, 78, of Catawba Island, Ohio died Thursday, April 10, 2008 at Magruder Hospital, Port Clinton, Ohio. He was born on November 28, 1929 in Lakeside, Ohio, the son of the late Augustus and Bernice (Miller) Eberly. On July 16, 1949, he married Lorna McRitchie, and she survives. He worked as a plumber for the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, Local 42, out of Norwalk, Ohio until his retirement in 1991. Alan and Lorna owned and operated Eberly Campground on Catawba Island for over 35 years until they sold it in 2001. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Danbury Township; member of the Port Clinton Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1610; captain of the Lutheran Dartball League at St. Paul Lutheran Church. His hobbies included making wine, as he enjoyed giving bottles of his homemade wine away to his family and friends. He loved to fish, especially ice fishing. Survivors include his wife, Lorna; grandchildren: Deb (Jamie) Bartlett, Kenton, Ohio and Dave (Jenny) Eberly, Painesville, Ohio; great grandchildren: Landon & Lauren Bartlett, and Isobel Eberly; brother Roy (Paula) Eberly, Port Clinton; niece: Carolynn (Bill) Snyder, and nephew: Dan Eberly, both of Port Clinton. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son: Dale Eberly. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 14 from 10:00 AM until services at 11:00 AM at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 E. Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead, OH, with Reverend Christina L. Young officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Island Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society; American Diabetes Association, or to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Danbury Township.
