Ruth Emma Simon

Ruth E. (Miller) Simon, age 94 of Swanton, OH, currently Virginia Beach, VA, passed away Feb 17, 2022. Ruth was born to Michael and Amelia (Goltz) Miller. At the age of 6 she, with her parents and older brother Carl, moved to a farm in rural Elmore, OH. She attended Harris Elmore School graduating in 1945. After graduation she and her parents returned to East Toledo. She decided to take up cosmetology and began her profession as a beautician working in The Beauty Bar, which was located in the Spitzler Arcade, downtown Toledo. In 1966 she opened her own shop, Starr Lite Beauty Salon, in East Toledo and worked there until it's closing in 1969. In the 1970's she took a job with The Jobst Institute working until her retirement. On Jan. 10, 1976 Ruth married Wilfred (Bill) Simon from Metamora, OH. They have been blessed with 46 years together. During their marriage they traveled to many places including all 50 States and Europe. For much of their married life they lived in East Toledo and were members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. In 1992, they built the home of their dreams and relocated to suburban Swanton then becoming members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Delta. Family was very important to Ruth and Bill and they very much enjoyed when opportunities arose to get together. Likewise, she had many treasured, close friends that became like family over a long wonderful life. In Feb. 2017 they moved to Virginia Beach, VA to be close to Bill's son and family. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, brother Carl and sister-in-law Martha Miller. She is survived by her husband Bill, stepson Richard (wife Michelle), stepdaughter Carol, Simon grandchildren, nieces, nephews and in-laws. Also surviving is niece Rita (Rich) Henzler and nephew Ed (Kathy) Miller and their three children and five grandchildren. Services will begin at 12:00pm Wednesday, February 23, 2022 with the family to receive friends beginning at 11am at the Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home, Elmore-Genoa Chapel 19550 W. St. Rt 51, Elmore, OH. Burial will be in Clay Township Cemetery.
