Pamela Susan Hughes

Pamela Susan Hughes, 59, of Put-in-Bay, Ohio passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2021 surrounded by family. Eugene “Tip” and Carol (Hoersten) Niese welcomed their daughter on June 12, 1961 in Ottawa, Ohio. Pam’s family came to Put-in-Bay in 1975 and began running the Island General Store. A few years later, her dad purchased the Colonial which housed the General Store and Beer Barrel Saloon. During that time, Pam graduated from St. Mary Central Catholic High School in 1979 and from Tiffin Academy of Hair Design in 1980. On October 20, 1984, Pam married Greg Hughes. They shared 36 years of marriage and three children. Greg and Pam later purchased the Island General Store from Tip in 1991 and still currently own and operate the store. In 2004, Greg and Pam built BayShore Resort on Put-in-Bay, the only lakefront hotel. Pam enjoyed island life, spending time with her friends and traveling during the winter time. Pam and her friends would enjoy happy hour gatherings on the island and Pam’s favorite drink was a vanilla White Russian; otherwise known as a “Pam Drink”. Most of all, she loved all the precious time she had spent with Greg, Celeste and Chad. Pam is preceded in death by her parents Tip and Carol; siblings Tippy and Kathy, and son Bradley. Surviving are her husband: Greg; children: Celeste (Tim) O’Haire and Chad Hughes; siblings: Tim (Sammie) Niese, Mike (Beth) Niese, Tammy (Larry) Niese-Knaser, Jeff (Kelly) Niese; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A Funeral Mass will be conducted at Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, Put-in-Bay, Ohio at 1pm on Saturday, April 24, 2021. Viewing hours will be from 11a-12:30pm the same day. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery, Put-in-Bay with a celebration of life reception immediately following at the Niagara Event Center.
