Norma R. Ochs, 90 of Port Clinton, OH died Friday, December 29, 2023 at Stein Hospice in Sandusky, OH. She was born February 27, 1933 in Fremont, OH to the late Edward and Rose (Beier) Hoelzle. In 1957 she married John Ochs who preceded her in death in 1991. She was a 1951 graduate of Fremont Saint Joseph High School and a graduate of Mercy School of Nursing, Toledo, OH. Norma was an RN for Drs. Monahan & Wilson in Fremont, OH and then retired after working as an industrial nurse for the Heinz Company in Fremont. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Port Clinton.
Norma enjoyed the friendship of many in several bridge clubs in Port Clinton and Fremont. She believed in giving back and was the most loyal and devoted friend. She volunteered in the gift shop at Magruder Hospital, and was a dedicated Salvation Army bell ringer. One of her joys was her time spent volunteering at Island Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary in Port Clinton where she became a “dog snuggler” spending time comforting furry friends.
Survivors include her children: Beth (James) Greer of Port Clinton, OH, Ruth (Bret) Dyke of Murfreesboro, TN, and Michael Ochs of Fremont, OH; grandchildren: Heather (Andrew) Conley, Eric (Mindy) Koch, Nicole Dyke, Adam Dyke, Grant Dyke, John Ochs and Claire Ochs; great-grandchildren: Rory & Sullivan Koch, and Mara & Drew Conley. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Donald Hoelzle, Marie Sherman, Hilda Hoelzle, and Margaret Hoelzle.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 5-7pm at Neidecker, Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Port Clinton Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 am on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Fremont, OH. There will be visitation at the church hall beginning at 9:00 am prior to the service. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Fremont, OH. Memorial Contributions may be made to Island Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary or Catawba Island Volunteer Fire Department.
