Martha (Busony) Brooks, 89, of Port Clinton, died Monday August 23, 2010 at Providence Care Center in Sandusky. Martha was born in Lakewood, Ohio, the daughter of Anna Dutko and Michael Busony, both of Austria-Hungary, the youngest of seven children. She was a 1940 graduate of Lakewood High School. As a young woman, she was employed as a bookkeeper for the Navy in Cleveland and after her children were born, she dedicated her life to her family. On June 21, 1944 she married Stokes Lee Brooks of Houston, TX. They resided in Gypsum and Port Clinton where Stokes worked for the US Gypsum Company. Martha was a member of Holy Assumption Orthodox Church in Marblehead. She is survived by two sons, Ronald (Julie) Brooks of Sandusky and Robert Brooks of Port Clinton; her youngest brother Louis Busony of Solvang, CA; and nieces and nephews, Carole (Gary) Conaway, Sharon (Charlie) Ringer, Louise (Denny) Landfried, Ray (Patti) Busony, Rosie (Chuck) Foster, Dorothy Wolfe, Bud (Sharon) Busony, Natalie (Greg) Twarek, Ruth (Dewane) Sheller and Linda (Earl) Durand. Martha was preceded in death by her husband Stokes in 2005, her siblings Michael, George, Andrew, Anne and Helen; and her parents. Friends may call from 6-8 pm Wednesday at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 East Harbor Road, Marblehead where Panachida services will be at 7 pm. Mrs. Stokes body will lie in state from 9 am Thursday until services at 10 at the Holy Assumption Orthodox Church, Marblehead, with Father David Lis presiding. Graveside services will follow at the Holy Assumption Orthodox Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Sandusky Library, Stein Hospice or the Holy Assumption Church.
