Karen Ann Lieske

Karen Ann Lieske, 73, of Chillicothe and formerly of Fremont and Oak Harbor, OH passed away February 3, 2021 at her home. She was born February 14, 1947 in Port Clinton, OH the daughter of Carl and Dorothy (Schwachenwalde) Wargowsky. She married Larry Lieske on August 25, 1967. Karen was a teacher at Fremont City Schools. When she and Larry moved to Wisconsin, she taught special education at Monroe High School. She taught preschool in Angola, IN. Karen and Larry lived in several states, but wherever they lived Karen was involved in her community. She volunteered in schools in Vernon Hills, IL, tutored many students in math in Angola, IN and Chillicothe, OH, and volunteered at her church everywhere she lived. Karen loved to sew, quilt, and make various crafts. Her sewing and quilting skills were amazing! She made many beautiful quilts, clothes for her grandchildren, and baby blankets for anybody she knew who had a new baby. As a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Chillicothe, OH and Calvary Lutheran Church in Angola, IN, she was very involved in the banner committee, leading others in making banners that hang in the sanctuaries and throughout the churches. Karen created various crafts to be used throughout the year so her home always reflected the current season or holiday, which brought joy to her family and the many people she welcomed into her home. She also had quite the green thumb – she loved tending to her plants and yard. She is survived by her husband, Larry; sons Jeff (Debbie) Lieske of La Crosse, WI, Jason Lieske of Las Vegas, NV; daughter Melissa (Jeff) Groen of Silver Spring, MD; grandchildren Katie Groen and Alexander Groen; and brothers Gary Wargowsky of Fremont, OH and Chuck (Cindy) Wargowsky of Oak Harbor, OH. Private Memorial services will be conducted at Calvary Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions may be given to Calvary Lutheran Church 74 W. Main St., Chillicothe, OH 45601.
