Judy Glaser

September 24, 1940 — April 25, 2023

She was a loving mother, doting grandmother, card shark, tennis player and avid reader. Judy Glaser passed away peacefully on April 25 at the age of 82.

A long-time resident of Cleveland and Shaker Heights, Lakeside (Ohio) and Sanibel, Florida, Judy most recently resided at Kendal at Oberlin.

She leaves behind three children, Amy Glaser, Susan Glaser and Michael Glaser; their spouses, Jo Lovell, Steven Brunot and Jodi Glaser; four grandchildren, Rachel Brunot, Ethan Glaser, Elliot Glaser and Sarah Brunot; plus numerous other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Neil Glaser. The two met in the late 1950s at an Ohio State University fraternity party. When he called her later to ask her out, she noted, “I hoped he was the cute one.” (He was.)

After earning a bachelor’s degree at Ohio State, she went back to school in the 1970s and earned a master’s degree from Cleveland State University. She worked for many years as a school psychologist in the Cleveland area.

She fought for fair housing in the 1970s and volunteered for schools, libraries and political candidates she believed in.

Judith Lynn Kerr was born on September 24, 1940, to Ruth and Walter Kerr in Ashland, Ohio, the middle of three children. Her older sister, Sharon Bermel, lives in Fort Myers, Florida; she is predeceased by younger brother George.

She and Neil lived for three decades in the Shaker Square neighborhood of Cleveland and then in Shaker Heights, before retiring to Sanibel and Lakeside.

The two loved to travel – to Europe, Hawaii and other far-flung locations. Closer to home, Hocking Hills and Mohican state parks were favorite destinations.

Another favorite pastime: Rooting on her beloved sports teams, including the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Guardians (whom she continued to call the Indians).

But her favorite hobby was bridge, which she played throughout her life, accumulating numerous master points along the way. Favorite family memories include raucous games of Oh Hell, nightly gin and tonics, walks on the beach on Sanibel and leisurely afternoons on the porch at Lakeside.

A celebration of life is planned for this summer at Lakeside. In lieu of flowers, donations in Judy’s memory can be made to the Lakeside Chautauqua Foundation, Kendal at Oberlin or Planned Parenthood.
