Joanne Marie Hockin

July 3, 1924 — March 19, 2024

Joanne Marie Hockin (nee Lasky), known to many as Jo, passed away on March 19, 2024, in Venice, FL, at the age of 99. She was born July 3, 1924, in Port Clinton, OH. Joanne was a vibrant soul with a love for life and an adventurous spirit. She graduated from Port Clinton High School in 1942. She supported the Redskins as a majorette and cheerleader. Joanne was a bank teller in San Diego at the start of her career before working at Tri Motor Sales in Oak Harbor, Uniroyal in Port Clinton, and Materion in Elmore. She was a dedicated employee and made a lasting impact wherever she went.


A member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Oak Harbor, Joanne found solace and community in her faith. She was actively involved in the church’s dart ball team and cherished the fellowship she found there.


In her personal life, Joanne was a devoted mother to her five daughters: Barb (Bryan) Shooks, Kathy (Bob) Fic, Marj (Doug) Norwine, Cleah McKee, and Bobbi (Doug) Beck. She took immense pride in her 12 grandchildren: Scott (Julie) Papineau, Jonathan Papineau, Beth (John) Tutor, Stacy (Dan) Wasserman, Rob Wood, Chris (Katie) Romig, Katie (Tom) Mazurek, Maggie (Troy) Stram, Julie (Ben) Bauer, Leslie Augst, Kyle (Jeanna) Beck, and Tracy Beck; 20 great-grandchildren: Trevor (Katelynn) Papineau, Grant Papineau, Brantley Tutor, Ania (Kade) Phipps, Carlos Rodriquez, Elena Wasserman, Tegan Wood, Kaleb Wood, Riley Enia, Sarah Romig, Gretchen Romig, Elle Mazurek, Sophie Mazurek, Tommy Mazurek, Zoey Bauer, Cora Bauer, Henry Bauer, Blaire Beck, Josephine Beck, and Louis Beck; and 1 great-great-grandchild Cooper Papineau. Joanne was predeceased by her husband, Robert Hockin, as well as her father Stanley Lasky, her mother Clarice (Hatfield) Lasky, and her grandsons Johnathan Papineau and Tracy Beck.


Joanne had a zest for life and a wide range of interests. She enjoyed activities such as golf, bowling, croquet, piano playing, skiing, playing bridge and solving puzzles like crosswords and sudoku. She truly enjoyed her group of friends who shared a love for liver and onions. Walking her beloved dog, Maci, and keeping up to date with the news through her newspaper were also cherished pastimes.


A Memorial Service to honor Joanne’s life will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 11am at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ, 165 Toussaint Street, Oak Harbor, OH 43449. Joanne will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her memory will live on through the love she shared with her family and friends.
