Jacob H. "Jake" Mackey

Jacob H. "Jake" Mackey, 73, of Catawba Island died suddenly Monday, July 22, 2013 at Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton, Ohio. He was born on May 5, 1940 in Port Clinton, the son of the late Raymond and Ida Belle (Babcock) Mackey. Jake was a 1958 Port Clinton High School graduate where he was a three sport letter winner. He earned a scholarship to play football at Bowling Green State University and then was drafted into the United States Army, serving his country in Panama during the Vietnam War. He married Carolyn A. Breon on October 19, 1968 and she survives. Jake worked at the Ford Motor Company in Sandusky, Ohio for 35 years until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of the Port Clinton Elks Lodge #1718; a member of the AMVETS in Sandusky, Ohio; a member of the Catawba Island Club and a member of the Ford UAW #1216 in Sandusky. His hobbies included going to casinos, traveling, and being an avid golfer. He enjoyed spending time with his loving feline and friend: Sara. Survivors include his wife: Carolyn; son: Ronald (Amy) Ferres, Bellevue, Ohio; daughter: Vicki (Everett) Tennant, Marblehead, Ohio; grandchildren: Emily Tennant and Everett Tennant, Jr.; Bryan, Brady and Brock Ferres; sister: Anna Marie Colston, Port Clinton; sister-in-law: Jeanne (Thomas) Gottron, Fremont, Ohio; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law: Kenny Colston. As a gift to others, Jake was an organ donor, and per his wishes cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton, where members of the Port Clinton Elks will conduct services at 6:30pm. Additional visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, July 26, 2013 from 10am until a Celebration of Life service at 11am. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Port Clinton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association; Humane Society of Ottawa County or to your favorite charity.
