Barbara J. Heineman, 79, of Put-in-Bay, OH died Monday, November 15, 2010 at Providence Care Center, Sandusky, OH where she received loving care. She was born December 27, 1930 on Put-in-Bay, the daughter of the late Angelo A. "Tony " and Elizabeth (Cucchi) Traverso. Barbara was a 1949 graduate of Put-in-Bay High School. She married Louis Heineman on October 25, 1952 and he survives. She worked at the Put-in-Bay Post Office for 30 years. Barbara was an active member of the Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church. She was instrumental in raising funds for the building of the carillon bell tower, by running the summer bingo for many years. Barbara was the grape queen for the 1st annual Grape Festival in 1948. She was also an expert grape picker. Surviving are her husband: Louis; son: Edward (Michele) Heineman of Put-in-Bay; daughters: Terese (Dr. John) Baker of Okemos, MI, Angela Martens of Put-in-Bay, Victoria Roggenbeck of Jacksonville, FL, Elizabeth Heineman of Put-in-Bay; grandchildren: Barbara Anne (Jason) Keizer, Lita Roggenbeck, Christina Roggenbeck, Dustin Heineman, Trevor Baker, Justin Baker, Ava Heineman; brothers: Raymond Traverso of Put-in-Bay, Arthur Traverso of Berea, OH; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Mercedes Traverso, Elizabeth Prezy; brothers: Edward, Valerian, and Norman Traverso; son-in-law: David Roggenbeck. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Nick Cunningham at 11:00 am Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, Put-in-Bay with visitation at the church from 9:00 until the time of the Mass. Burial will be in Mapleleaf Cemetery, Put-in-Bay, OH. Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Port Clinton, is handling arrangements for the family. Memorial contributions may be given to Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, Stein Hospice or the donor's choice.
